I recently saw a reblog which was admittedly quite funny, but it compared Hercules’s reaction to being adopted in the Disney film to Loki’s reaction in “Thor.” Unfavorably for Loki. Well that’s not fair ^^; Hercules found out he was the son of ZEUS who is the auspicious and (in that version) benevolent god of like, everything. lol. And his adoptive parents were always unconditionally loving. And he lived with them because Hades had him kidnapped and sent to earth. Loki on the other hand learned he was stolen by the person who raised him, that his actual birthfather was an unconscionably wicked man who left him to die on a snowy hillside and more than that, the greatest enemy of his beloved homeland. I mean uh. Lol.
I dunno, I feel like nobody really examines this stuff :/ Or some people do but lol golly B/
Amen to that. In the fic I just finished, Superman tries to show Loki that he empathizes with him by saying he was raised by adoptive parents of a different species too, but Loki is swift to point out that the situations are very different, for the very same reasons icy-mischief lists. Odin vs. Jonathan Kent? No contest as to which anyone would want as an adoptive dad. Ugly blue creatures hated by most of the Nine Realms vs. an extinct superpowered species that looks like Christopher Reeve? Again: no comparison.
