DING DING DING DING. Tony knows, first hand, what modern warfare is like. He bankrolled it, ffs. He built it. Stark Enterprises was the go-to guys for shit to kill people with. Fuck, Steve’s metaphor about sacrifice: crawling through the mud, laying over the wire so your buddies can crawl over you and keep on going. Pure WWII trench warfare. But they don’t do that any more. They fire 100,000 dollar missiles from half a mile away, manless and sloppy drone strikes and throw smart bombs that can level buildings and the overwhelming death count is always civilians. Those trapped, unable to flee the combat zone. Women and children, poor and helpless, as bombs fling over their heads and bullets riddle their houses and never knowing if a remote controlled fighter is going to drop a payload on their house that was meant for some terrorist ring leader and wipe out their entire block. Steve is red, white and blue and pure patriotism and pride in fighting for a worthy cause. Tony is red and gold that knows that those colors have been planted on a mountain of corpses of innocent people.
