I’m sure the writers were trying to screw with our minds as much as possible with the Tarrlok backstory, and made us all feel terribly sorry for him. I feel like it could have been written a bit better.
But now people are like no don’t feel sorry for Tarrlok what about Mako why do you hate him he’s just a teenager etc etc etc.
The difference is, Tarrlok apologized, and repented. HE KILLED HIMSELF AND HIS BROTHER. He gets the “Not as much of a jerk as you could have been” award.
Mako, on the other hand, did not apologize for what he’s done yet. When he realizes this, then I’ll forgive him. He doesn’t get special treatment. Jerkbender award.
And all the people hating on Asami, please go fuck yourselves. She’s worse off than Mako and still making good decisions.

That doesn’t excuse his actions. We don’t like him because he doesn’t own up to his mistakes. We’ve made it clear that mistakes are human, yes, but at least Korra is trying…
Yes, but Mako is still human. And you should have more faith in bryke. BAD FAN.
Mako is still making mistakes because he is,well, y’know human. Maybe he’ll own up to it. Give him some fucking time. I mean, everyone hated Zuko at the beginning. THIS IS STILL THE BEGINNING.
And, Mako is a teenage guy. Teenage guys aren’t exactly great when it comes to girls.
And, Bryke DOES need to do more character development, but they’re not perfect either. Have some faith.
That’s not what you said when we were talking about Azula. You said she was “pure evil” and crazy. A monster. Apparently no longer human.
Now with Mako, you know there was only going to be one season? This was it. Some crappy love triangle, where everyone was supposed to think Asami was the jealous bitch, the bad guy. I love Bryke. I wouldn’t be watching if I didn’t. But they really need to fix this.
You’re still completely excusing Mako for everything. You’re ignoring that he’s a complete jerk. He doesn’t even have much of a good reason for that. He doesn’t seem conflicted at ALL about treating Asami that way. He even seems to blame her for it. And Bolin. His brother. It seems he forgot just how much he loves Bolin. Despite the mothering role he apparently took on, he has no sense of family or loyalty. Imagine yourself in Asami’s place. Would you want a boyfriend like that?
With Zuko, we understood WHY he made the actions he made. Honor and all that. Kidding. He was extremely conflicted with the views he had to consider. Mako is just a jerk.

Zuko is ATLA made so many mistakes. But he realized them and he fixed them. He owned up to his mistakes. He felt guilt. That’s more than Mako can say. What IS Mako fighting for? Zuko fought for justice, and what he felt was right. With Mako it feels like he’s fighting for himself.
And Mako is a jerk to both Asami and Korra. He thinks he’s privileged enough to have both. Bryke is amazing, but they’re focusing TOO MUCH on the shipping. He wasn’t even that worried about Bolin when he was kidnapped.
If Mako isn’t going to be a good partner to them, he doesn’t deserve them.
He has so much potential. Bryke needs to see this.

EDIT: Also, excusing him with the “he’s only human” is basically telling him he can do whatever the FUCK he wants, and can get away with it. Please don’t let him become Finn Hudson…
